About the Interprofessional Health Events Calendar
The Interprofessional Health Events Calendar is meant to be a central clearinghouse for events of interest to faculty, staff and students in the health sciences and related schools. The calendar was created for and is currently maintained by staff of the Interprofessional Health committee and the Ebling Library.
What kinds of events are listed here?
Just about any open event that might be of interest to health sciences people is welcome. We're trying to get things that have broad appeal but we accept things which are school/department/discipline specific. Users of the calendar have the ability to search for events or limit the audiences the events are targeted at, or view everything.
How do I get my events listed here?
Glad you asked. Currently Allan Barclay (abarclay at library.wisc.edu) is doing the updating but we'd like to get other people involved. We can set up an account so you can enter events into the calendar yourself or send us events and we can enter them for you (within reason - ideally send us materials well in advance and we can enter them all at once). We'd like to restrict logins to one per department/program/school but we can discuss any special needs you'd have - whatever it takes to make it easy for you to use.
Why does this calendar exist?
There has been an interest expressed by students, faculty and staff in being able to attend events outside their major, department, etc but there is no central health sciences uber-calendar. We're trying to tackle that problem head on by making it as easy as possible for people to get their events listed in one place. We'll also link to other people's events calendars if they prefer (just send us the link and request) but the whole idea here is to try to pull the information together in one place - so people don't have to check a bazillion calendars on their own.
What are future plans for the calendar?
Currently you can subscribe to an RSS feed of this calendar or sign up for monthly email alerts. We'd like to set up the ability to select specific events and then email those to yourself or others. We'd also like to create the ability to export event information in a format such as iCal for easy import into your PDA or personal calendar (this is being done more and more at conferences, weather websites and such - you could even create your own custom calendar using a select set of exports and pulling them into something like a Google calendar). We're also very interested in any other ideas you'd have to make this more useful. Or pretty.
